The causitive agent

Genus Asfivirus in the Asfarviridae family. Large, complex, envolped DNA-Virus, replicates primarily in macrophages.

Four main phases of the infection dynamics at the population level are recognised: introduction (or incursion), invasion, epidemic and endemic persistence.
